I personally love floral scents, so when the weather turns cold, I still reach for flowers. The trick is knowing which florals feel cozy enough for winter, and which cozy scents are worth the hype.
This post is a mix. First, four floral perfumes I actually own and wear. Then, a few cozy scents everyone’s talking about this season, which I haven’t tried myself, plus some easy ways to layer them. Each one is clearly labeled, so you’ll always know which is which.
The quick verdict
- Warmest floral I own: Versace Crystal Noir
- Classic rose with a cozy base: Miss Dior Eau de Parfum
- Sweet rose for less: Lush Rose Jam Perfume
- Light, everyday floral: Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet
- Viral cozy vanilla: Kayali Vanilla 28
- Best budget pick: fine’ry Athena ($29.99 for 2 fl oz)
The first four are perfumes I own. The rest are research picks based on editor reviews. This post doesn’t contain affiliate links.
What makes a perfume good for winter?
Cold air makes scents feel lighter and fade faster, so winter perfumes usually lean warmer and richer. Think vanilla, amber, woods, spices and musk. Fragrance editors at The Zoe Report say this winter is all about cozy gourmand notes like milk and tea, boozy vanilla, and darker berries instead of bright summer citrus.
The good news for flower lovers: a floral with a warm base, like vanilla, amber or sandalwood, works beautifully in winter too.
My floral perfumes, one by one
I wear all four of these as perfume, both when I go out and every day, depending on my mood. To me, they all smell pleasant and last a long time on my skin.
1. Versace Crystal Noir Eau de Toilette
✓ I’ve used this
Price: $138 for 3 oz (90 mL) at Sephora
Ulta also sells a Bright Crystal and Crystal Noir mini duo for $30, which is an easy way to try it first.
Scent notes: Pepper, cardamom and ginger on top, gardenia, orange blossom and peony in the middle, and sandalwood, musk and amber at the base
Of the four, this is the warmest. The spices and amber give the flowers a darker, cozier feel, which is exactly what you want in winter. It’s been around since 2004, so it’s easy to find, and you can often spot it at department stores and discount perfume shops.
Verdict: Glowy. A great pick if you love florals but want something deeper for colder months.
2. Miss Dior Eau de Parfum
✓ I’ve used this
Price: $65 to $231 at Sephora
$65 for a 0.6 oz (20 mL) rollerball, $115 for 1 oz (30 mL), $154 for 1.7 oz (50 mL), $185 for 3.4 oz (100 mL) and $231 for 5 oz (150 mL)
Scent notes: Iris, lily of the valley and peony, then apricot, peach and rose, on a base of benzoin, musk, sandalwood, tonka bean and vanilla, according to The Scent Base
This is a classic rose perfume, but the vanilla and tonka base keeps it soft and warm, so it doesn’t feel too springy in winter.
Verdict: Glowy. If you want one rose perfume that works all year, this is a lovely choice.

3. Lush Rose Jam Perfume
✓ I’ve used this
Price: $26 to $150 at Lush
$26 for 0.3 fl oz (9 mL), $65 for 1 fl oz (30 mL) and $150 for 3.3 fl oz (100 mL)
Scent notes: Rose absolute, geranium and Sicilian lemon. Lush describes it as a lemon-rose scent inspired by its bestselling Rose Jam Shower Gel.
This one is sweet and jammy, and it’s the easiest on the wallet of my four. The small size is a nice way to try it, or a cute gift for a rose lover.
Verdict: Glowy. A fun, sweet rose that costs a lot less than designer perfumes.
4. Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet Eau de Toilette
✓ I’ve used this
Price: $49 to $190 at Sephora
$49 for a 0.6 oz (20 mL) rollerball, $98 for 1 oz (30 mL), $124 for 1.7 oz (50 mL), $155 for 3.4 oz (100 mL) and $190 for 5 oz (150 mL)
Scent notes: Calabrian bergamot, peony and Damascus rose, with white musk at the base, according to Dior
This is the lightest of the four. It’s soft and fresh, which makes it perfect for everyday wear. Dior itself describes it as spring-like, so it’s not a “cozy” winter scent, but it’s a great pick if heavy winter perfumes give you a headache or you want something easy for work or school.
Verdict: Glowy for everyday. If you want more warmth in winter, try layering it (see below).
Viral cozy winter scents (researched, not tested)
I haven’t worn these myself, so these picks are based on what fragrance editors say.
5. Kayali Vanilla 28 Eau de Parfum
Researched, not tested
Price: $32 to $150 at Sephora
$32 for a 0.33 oz (10 mL) travel spray, $105 for 1.7 oz (50 mL) and $150 for 3.4 oz (100 mL)
One of the most talked-about vanilla perfumes online. Marie Claire describes it as sweet, syrupy and a little boozy, which is the cozy feeling most people want in winter. The fragrance blog Perfume Nez says it lasts around 8 to 12 hours, but warns it may feel too sweet if you usually like fresh or citrusy scents.
Verdict: Glowy, if you love sweet vanilla. Try a sample first, since it’s on the pricey side.

6. Phlur Rose Whip Eau de Parfum
Researched, not tested
Price: $32 to $99 at Sephora
$32 for the travel spray and $99 for 1.7 oz (50 mL)
A rose with warm cashmere wood and black currant. A Marie Claire editor picked it as a winter favorite and said it’s light enough to wear to work. In a separate review, Marie Claire editor Brooke Knappenberger described it as rose with spicy pink pepper and a warm, leathery base, and said it may not be a safe blind buy if you like classic florals. So it’s worth smelling first.
Verdict: Glowy for floral lovers who want a little warmth.
7. fine’ry Athena Eau de Parfum
Researched, not tested
Price: $29.99 for 2 fl oz (60 mL)
Sold at Target and on the fine’ry website
A warm, spicy vanilla that a Marie Claire editor says isn’t overly sweet. fine’ry is Target’s affordable perfume line, and beauty blogger Musings of a Muse noted it first took off on TikTok for its budget versions of luxury scents. At this price, it’s an easy way to try a cozy vanilla.
Verdict: Glowy. The best budget pick on this list.
8. DedCool Milk Eau de Parfum
Researched, not tested
Price: $30 to $90 at Sephora
$30 for 0.5 oz (15 mL) and $90 for 1.7 oz (50 mL)
A soft skin scent made for layering. Marie Claire says it boosts other perfumes and holds up well in cold weather. A Refinery29 tester called it comforting, with a light powdery, autumn-like feel, and said it added more depth when layered under another perfume.
Verdict: Maybe. It’s subtle on its own, but great if you want to make a lighter perfume feel warmer.
9. Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 62 Hair & Body Perfume Mist
Researched, not tested
Price: $26 to $39 at Sephora
$26 for 3 oz (90 mL) and $39 for 8 oz (240 mL)
The pistachio, salted caramel and vanilla mist that’s all over TikTok. Who What Wear says it draws compliments all the time.
Verdict: Maybe. It’s a body mist, so it fades faster than perfume, but it’s a cozy, budget-friendly scent to layer.
How to layer perfume for winter
Layering just means wearing two scents at the same time so they blend into one. It’s an easy way to make a light, fresh perfume feel warmer and cozier when it’s cold.

Step by step
- Moisturize first. Perfume lasts longer on hydrated skin. A body lotion or cream works, and a scented one counts as your first layer.
- Pick two scents: one warm, one light. The warm one is your base (vanilla, amber, woods or musk). The light one goes on top (a fresh floral or fruity scent).
- Spray the warm one first. One or two sprays on your wrists and neck.
- Add the light one on top. One or two sprays over the same spots, or a light mist over your clothes or hair so it spreads around you.
- Test before you go out. Try new combos on your arm and wait a few minutes. If you like how they smell together, you’ve found a match.
Tips like moisturizing first and spraying one scent on your pulse points and the other more lightly all over come from Marie Claire’s winter layering guide.
Easy combos to try
These are ideas based on the scent notes, not combos I’ve tested myself. The first scent is your warm base, the second goes on top.
| Spray first (warm base) | Spray second (on top) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| DedCool Milk | Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet | A fresh floral that feels softer and warmer |
| fine’ry Athena | Lush Rose Jam | A sweet rose with a cozy vanilla glow |
| Kayali Vanilla 28 | Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 62 (in your hair) | A cozy vanilla with a sweet scent trail |
FAQ
Can you wear floral perfume in winter?
Yes. Look for florals with a warm base, like vanilla, amber, sandalwood or musk. Versace Crystal Noir and Miss Dior Eau de Parfum are good examples.
What scents are best for winter?
Warm, rich notes like vanilla, amber, woods, spices and musk. This year, gourmand notes like milk, tea and boozy vanilla are especially popular.
Why does my perfume fade faster in winter?
Cold, dry air and dry skin don’t hold scent as well. Moisturizing first, or layering over a scented body cream, can help it last longer.
What’s a good cheap winter perfume?
fine’ry Athena is $29.99 for a 2 fl oz bottle, and DedCool Milk comes in a $30 travel size. For a floral, Lush Rose Jam starts at $26 for a small 0.3 fl oz bottle.
