Body mists keep coming up again and again in the beauty community this year. Beauty editors at Marie Claire, Forbes and Essence have all shared their favorites, and creators can’t stop comparing vanilla mists, from new drugstore launches like eos to cult picks like Sol de Janeiro.
I get the appeal. A body mist costs a fraction of a perfume, smells lovely, and you can spray it everywhere without a second thought. I wear perfume every day myself (here are the four florals I own), so my first question about mists is always the same: do they actually last, or are you paying for a scent that’s gone by lunch?
So I looked at six of the most talked-about body mists right now, from a $13 drugstore find to a $45 splurge, and compared price per ounce, scent and what US beauty editors and creators say about how long they last.
The quick verdict
- Best budget mist: eos Vanilla Cashmere Body Mist (about $13 to $15 for 6 oz)
- Best value vanilla: Athena Club Golden Vanilla Hair & Body Mist ($16 for 6 fl oz)
- Best long-lasting vanilla: PHLUR Vanilla Skin Hair & Body Mist ($39 for 8 oz)
- Best for floral lovers: OUAI Melrose Place Hair & Body Mist ($28 for 3.3 oz)
- Best treat: Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 62 Hair & Body Perfume Mist
- Best perfume-like splurge: Salt & Stone Body Mist
These are all research picks based on editor and creator reviews, brand information and retailer listings. I haven’t personally tested these mists. This post doesn’t contain affiliate links.

The body mists, one by one
1. eos Vanilla Cashmere Body Mist
Researched, not tested
Price: $12.99 to $14.99 for 6 oz, depending on the store
If you already love the eos Vanilla Cashmere lotion, this is the same scent in a spray: whipped vanilla, soft musk and caramel. It’s one of the newer mists on this list, and at this price it’s an easy one to try.
Essence beauty writer Kimberly Wilson called it her new cozy-season essential. She found it sweet but not overpowering, and she could still smell vanilla on her skin at bedtime after spraying it earlier in the day, which is impressive for a mist at this price. She also likes layering it over perfume. Her one complaint: a quick alcohol smell right after spraying, which fades as it dries.
It also has hyaluronic acid, glycerin and aloe in the formula, though a mist isn’t going to replace your body lotion.
- Good to know: It’s a sweet gourmand scent, so it’s not for you if you like fresh or clean scents.
- Best for: Vanilla lovers on a budget, and anyone who wants their eos lotion scent to last a little longer.

2. Athena Club Golden Vanilla Hair & Body Mist
Researched, not tested
Price: $16 for 6 fl oz, or $10 for a travel-size mini, on Athena Club’s site
Athena Club is better known for its razors and deodorants, but its Golden Vanilla mist has quickly become a creator favorite. The scent is vanilla cream, cashmere and sandalwood, with notes like coconut, almond, milky chocolate and tonka bean.
Athena Club says the mist has 5% fragrance oil, which it calls nearly double the industry standard, and that it’s made to last longer than an average body mist.
Creators back that up, within reason. Lemon8 creator @beautybybrittney_xo describes it as a creamy, warm vanilla that isn’t cloying, and says it lasts about 3 to 4 hours on skin and until the next day on clothes. Another creator who tried two other Athena Club scents reported the same 3 to 4 hours, and longer when layered.
- Good to know: It’s a hair and body mist, and the brand says it’s safe to spray through your hair.
- Best for: The best value if you want a cozy vanilla that lasts a bit longer than most cheap mists.
3. PHLUR Vanilla Skin Hair & Body Mist
Researched, not tested
Price: $39 for 8 oz at Sephora
If you want a vanilla mist that smells more grown-up, this is the one editors keep mentioning. Marie Claire’s Emma Aerin Becker describes it as a warm, sweet vanilla with sandalwood and pink pepper, and calls it long-lasting. She keeps a bottle in her bag for touch-ups.
It costs more than eos or Athena Club, but you get 8 oz, so the price per ounce is still reasonable.
- Good to know: It’s still a mist, so plan on reapplying during the day, especially in dry winter air.
- Best for: Vanilla lovers who want something cozier and less sugary than a drugstore mist.
4. OUAI Melrose Place Hair & Body Mist
Researched, not tested
Price: $28 for 3.3 oz (97 mL) at Sephora
Not a vanilla fan? This is the floral pick. Melrose Place smells like rose, bergamot, lychee and champagne, with a little white musk.
Forbes beauty writer Claire Epting found it fresh and lightly sweet, and said the scent lasted several hours. She reapplied it through the day, even after Pilates, and it never felt overpowering.
- Good to know: It’s a smaller bottle, so the price per ounce is much higher than the vanilla mists.
- Best for: Floral lovers who want a soft, fresh rose scent for everyday.

5. Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 62 Hair & Body Perfume Mist
Researched, not tested
Price: $26 for 3 oz or $39 for 8 oz at Sephora
This is the mist many people think of first, with the same salted caramel, pistachio and vanilla scent as the famous Bum Bum Cream.
The catch is longevity. Marie Claire’s Emma Aerin Becker says it’s ultra-sweet and “not super long-lasting.” So you’re mostly paying for one of the most loved scents out there, not for staying power.
- Good to know: If you love the Bum Bum Cream scent, layering the cream and mist together is the way to make it last.
- Best for: Sol de Janeiro fans, or as a gift. If you just want a sweet gourmand scent, the eos and Athena Club mists cost much less per ounce.
6. Salt & Stone Body Mist (Black Rose & Oud)
Researched, not tested
Price: About $45 for 3.4 oz
Salt & Stone is the most perfume-like mist on this list. The Black Rose & Oud scent is musky and woody, with a deeper rose than the OUAI.
According to Marie Claire’s Emma Aerin Becker, it’s very strong at first and then softens, and its lasting power is “very impressive.”
- Good to know: At about $13 per ounce, it costs more than five times as much as the eos mist. At that price, you’re close to buying a small bottle of perfume.
- Best for: Someone who wants a mist that wears more like a perfume, and doesn’t mind paying for it.
Body mist vs. perfume: what’s the difference?
Body mists have less fragrance oil than perfume and more water and alcohol, which is why they feel lighter and fade faster. That also makes them cheaper, gentler on the nose, and easy to spray all over without overwhelming anyone around you.
A perfume like an eau de parfum can last most of the day. Most body mists last a few hours, so think of them as a lighter, layer-and-refresh kind of scent rather than a perfume replacement.
How to make a body mist last longer

- Spray it right after body lotion. Scent clings better to moisturized skin than to dry skin. If you need a lotion, I compared seven viral body lotions and oils here.
- Mist your hair and clothes. Creators who tried the Athena Club mist found it lasted until the next day on clothes, much longer than on skin. Hair and body mists are made to go on hair too.
- Spray where it’ll be noticed. Forbes’ Claire Epting suggests the back of your neck and along your collarbone for lighter scents.
- Layer it. Wear a mist on top of a matching lotion or over a perfume. Essence’s Kimberly Wilson likes layering the eos mist over her perfumes.
- Keep one in your bag. A mini or travel size makes touch-ups easy, which is how most editors use mists anyway.
Which body mist should you buy?
- If you want the cheapest good one: eos Vanilla Cashmere.
- If you want the best value for longer wear: Athena Club Golden Vanilla.
- If you love vanilla and can spend more: PHLUR Vanilla Skin.
- If you prefer florals: OUAI Melrose Place.
- If you love the Bum Bum Cream scent: Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 62.
- If you want a mist that wears like perfume: Salt & Stone.

Final verdict: glowy or not?
Glowy, as long as you know what you’re buying. A body mist is a fun, affordable way to smell nice all day, but it won’t last like a perfume, and you’ll need to reapply. For the best value, start with the eos or Athena Club vanilla mists. If you want a mist that lasts longer or smells more grown-up, PHLUR and Salt & Stone are worth a look, and OUAI is the one for floral lovers. Sol de Janeiro smells amazing, but you’re mostly paying for the name and the scent.
FAQ
How long does body mist last?
Usually a few hours on skin, depending on the formula and your skin. Forbes notes most body mists last a few hours, and creators report about 3 to 4 hours for the Athena Club mist. They tend to last longer on hair and clothes.
Can you spray body mist on your hair?
Mists labeled “hair and body,” like the Athena Club, PHLUR, OUAI and Sol de Janeiro mists here, are made for both. For a body-only mist, check the label first.
Is a body mist the same as perfume?
No. A body mist has less fragrance oil, so it’s lighter, cheaper and fades faster. Many people use mists for everyday and save perfume for going out, or wear both together.
What’s the best vanilla body mist?
For the price, eos Vanilla Cashmere or Athena Club Golden Vanilla. For a richer vanilla that editors say lasts longer, PHLUR Vanilla Skin.
Is the Sol de Janeiro body mist worth it?
If you love the scent, yes, as a treat. But Marie Claire’s editor found it isn’t very long-lasting, and cheaper vanilla mists cost a lot less per ounce.
